Welcome to the exciting world of golf! If you are looking forward to your first day on the course, Font del Llop Golf Resort is the ideal place to start your adventure. Before you get started, it is important to bear in mind some key aspects that will help make your experience a successful one. We all need a push and a helping hand to take the first steps, so this guide for your first day of golf will provide you with the help you need to prepare your body, mind and equipment to get started in this sport.

1. BASIC PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Although golf is not a high-intensity sport, it requires endurance, flexibility and strength. Stretch to prevent injury and improve your mobility, especially in the lower back, shoulders and wrists. Regular walking or balance exercises can be excellent preparation.

2. BASIC EQUIPMENT NEEDED

If you want to start out on your own and go straight to the course, you can rent clubs suitable for beginners at many golf courses, depending on your height and strength. However, if you have decided to start by taking lessons like the ones we teach at Font Del Llop, you don’t need to bring the basic technical equipment. However, in both cases make sure you bring comfortable clothes, golf shoes if you have them, gloves if you wish and a cap or sunscreen to be prepared for the sun.

3. KNOW THE RULES AND ETIQUETTE OF GOLF

Familiarise yourself with the basic rules and etiquette on the course. Respect turns, take care of the grass, and if you are unsure about anything, don’t hesitate to ask the course staff. On the internet, you can find the updated rules of the Royal Golf Federation in case you have any doubts. Respect and patience are fundamental in this sport.

4. RECOGNISE THE COURSE BEFORE YOU PLAY ON IT

Take some time to walk the course or look at a map of the course before you start (ours is interactive and can be found on the home page of the website). Identify the most challenging holes, what pars they are, water hazards or bunkers, and think about how you want to approach the game. This will not only help you feel more confident, but will also allow you to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

5. HYDRATION AND ENERGY

Golf can last several hours, so bring a bottle of water and some healthy snacks, such as fruit or cereal bars. This will help keep you hydrated and energised throughout the game.

6. KEEP A POSITIVE AND RELAXED ATTITUDE

Golf is as much a sport as it is a social and relaxing experience. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t hit the perfect shot; the most important thing is to enjoy the process and learn slowly. Remember that even the pros started as beginners.

Your first day of golf can be the beginning of a lifelong passion. With a little physical preparation, the right equipment and expert guidance, you’ll be ready to enjoy the sport in a spectacular setting and sport. Come with an open mind, enjoy every shot and marvel at the tranquillity and beauty of the course – we look forward to welcoming you to take your first step on this exciting golfing journey!
